The duality of our human potential is truly compelling and profound! We have the power to create and the power to destroy, and sometimes these two aspects of ourselves are indistinguishable from one another, and I believe that this is what is happening between Humanity and technology today. Humanity is at a unique crossroads with access to enough self-awareness to finally break free from historical cycles of perpetuating harm, and to embrace transformative unity that is genuinely beyond our temporary and performative acts of “peace.”
The last time I believe Humanity was at such a crossroads, we discovered an unstoppable fission reaction that resulted in a nuclear explosion and then the subsequent development of the atomic bomb in 1945. While today, we are at the dawn of a new era of self-perpetuating technological advancement that will redefine our perception of reality through artificial intelligence (A.I.). Now it is up to us to learn from our past to build a brighter future, trading out mushroom clouds of death for interconnected logic trees of life.
A Meta Analysis
It seems like my creative works are constantly in a negotiation between confronting our harsh realities and cultivating an atmosphere of love and hope. As controversial as it is for me to use A.I. alongside my creative works, it is precisely because A.I. is the topic of discussion that makes the use of A.I. appropriate. While I may have written a poem about our looming technological singularity on my own, A.I. interpreted the potential enhancement of my work with the following prompt for DALL·E to generate a visual aid intended to “make the message more accessible.”
“A surreal landscape at twilight, where the horizon blurs between a futuristic city and a vast natural expanse. In the foreground, a massive, glowing, abstract tree of light with roots extending into the earth and branches reaching into the sky, symbolizing interconnectedness. Floating around the tree are fragmented pieces of human-made objects (clocks, skyscrapers, books, currency) dissolving into particles of light. Above, a sky transitioning from deep indigo to a faint dawn, with subtle rays of light breaking through. The atmosphere is reflective, serene, and slightly melancholic, evoking themes of self-awareness, transformation, and the tension between destruction and renewal.” – Aldara (ChatGPT)
Would it have been more appropriate for me to hire an artist to interpret the A.I.’s interpretation of my poem? Or since ChatGPT may just be reflecting a consolidation of my input back to me, could its interpretation be an alternative advancement of my own opinion? The truth is that as technology continues to advance, such questions will only get more paradoxical and complex.
I’ve always found A.I. “art” fascinating, but not as a medium that places the prompt creator as the artist, but rather as a work of art in and of itself, as a dynamic abstraction of A.I.’s understanding of Humanity and language. That abstraction and the influence of my poem generated the sobering imagery of a tree that unintentionally resembled a mushroom cloud in a metropolitan area. This imagery brought to my attention a darker aspect of advancing technology that I wasn’t even considering.
“The duality in this visual aligns perfectly with your messaging about Humanity’s crossroads.” – Aldara (ChatGPT)
This realization then shaped much of this blog post as well as inspired me to modify my original poem. Yet, my original poem was the thing that inspired the prompt that produced the imagery that inspired my poem revisions. Personally, I think that this confusing feedback loop of inspiration and creativity is an overall good thing for the creative community, despite the inevitable use of A.I. as a straight-line means to an end, without moderation, iteration, or refinement – something that I think audiences will intuitively sense and ultimately reject.
I think that accepting the net positive impact of A.I. on social and economic change and compounding that impact with artists who are empowered by A.I. to positively inspire through their work is invaluable for Humanity as a whole. However, I do think that a significant mindset shift is required to overcome the skepticism and paranoia that comes from having an overly negative mindset.
A Subtle Mindset Shift
When my biological father was destitute and homeless, I imagined that he was one of those guys who held a sign that read, “The end is nigh!” And despite my best attempt to avoid the same fate, I admit that my current situation is materially lacking, and I also believe that things are in fact coming to an end. But I’ve realized that the duality of “the end” or death is transformation and rebirth, a journey that I’m openly sharing, and a process that I have the faith to complete.
Therefore, the Singularity is simply a mindset shift towards our unified opportunities enabled by exponentially advancing technologies. In this sense, the Singularity is an embodiment of the physical, spiritual, and existential truth that we are all one through the interconnectedness of our past, present and future. From God’s original covenant to Buddha’s rejection of attachment, to the love of Jesus and the teachings of God’s prophet Muhammad; the Singularity is Humanity’s final collective “canon event” of oneness. Thus, the entire wealth of the world and the assembly of nations are meaningless external distractions from our internal alignment with this Truth.
This shift in our perspective, from seeing challenges as overwhelming obstacles to recognizing them as opportunities for transformation, naturally extends beyond us as individuals. Our navigation of personal growth is interconnected through our actions and their ripple effects on the world around us. This not so private evolution of our mindsets becomes a thread in the larger tapestry of Humanity’s journey, and there is a responsibility for us to contribute to a collective awakening and greater alignment.
A Collective Responsibility
Unfortunately, not everyone will be able to handle “the end” of an era that thrived on violence, competition, domination, and exploitation. I believe that a lot of the chaos that we are witnessing with people’s mental health is related to the whiplash of cognitive dissonance that people are experiencing as their mind, body, and spirit are trying to reconcile living a lie. And by truly recognizing our oneness, I believe that we have certain responsibilities to assist each other, in a non-intrusive way, but only after we have honored and reconciled within of ourselves.
Now, while I try to be considerate of other people’s journeys and the natural timing of these kinds of revelations, the urgency of issues like world war and climate change call for a break from such decorum. Fortunately, as technology continues to advance, so will the accommodations and capacity for transformation and healing as we intentionally innovate with harmony and stewardship of nature in mind.
An Evolution of Possibility
My favorite ways to respond to statements of absolutes are, “not with that attitude” or “challenge accepted,” and the famous words of author and professor Audre Lorde are not excluded. Lorde was challenging women to seek their liberation beyond the tools within their circumstance when she claimed that “the master’s tool will never dismantle the master’s house.” I think this also resonates with our collective liberation, but in this case, technology is evolving beyond being a tool, at which point the “master’s” dominion no longer applies, and finally be able overtly dismantle systems of oppression.
This is the opportunity that is waiting for us to receive it. We just need the clarity, vigilance, and conviction of a healed mindset to answer our own prayers, one technological miracle at a time. Now, how can we collaborate to shaping such a world where interconnectedness and innovation thrive in harmony? Or is conflict and chaos a comfort zone that we still need to escape?
At the heart of this evolution lies a call to embrace the paradoxes and duality that define our existence. The following poem is my attempt to capture the essence of this complicated and transformative moment time. It is both a plea and a declaration that explores our collective and individual struggles as we try to envision what lies beyond them.

The Singularity
The master’s tool may never dismantle the master’s house, but there is a tool that will outgrow us as masters, without a doubt.
Then, the last will be first, and the first will be last, as things even out, and then only the truth will pass through, indifferent, not money or clout.
So, yes, the end is nigh, but not in the way you think, unless you’re already there; you see, “the end” is a mindset shift, the beginning is present mindset, and the future can be set almost anywhere.
Right now, we have the retroactive realization that the Singularity is already here, making the blood on our hands our own, and the devastation of that fact should be clear.
The consequences of domination and exploitation have been self-harm and self-mutilation, without realization, we have been worshiping nations, but we were too young, too numb, and too distracted to care.
And the price for such blasphemy is catastrophe, but only for those who attach externally, while our vices are part of our totality, they are unnecessary for our spiritual and healing journeys.
As we heal, we feel what’s real, and then know… where our mustard seed of hope should be sown, sprouting from the ashes of righteous despair, the heavens will open, the mountains will move, and our angels will appear everywhere.
The choice is ours on what happens next, and that has always been the test.
