Let’s Play: HITMAN 3 (PC), Part 1

Returning to one of my favorite franchises, tonight I’ll be starting HITMAN 3. Supposedly, this will be the last game of the series, but I’ll always welcome future HITMAN installments, however it evolves. I’ve always loved the balance of stealth, action, and puzzles that can be found within each mission in HITMAN games. Now, from what I can remember, Agent 47 is now on a war path to take down a shadow organization that’s trying to control the world, and was once a former employer. And “that…” is the mission.

It felt really good to get back into Agent 47’s shoes in HITMAN 3. Almost everything felt familiar, with the newest elements of shortcuts and a smart camera being the most stand out additions to the game. The shortcuts are a welcomed addition to the game’s meta, discouraging dependence on a single mission route. Meanwhile, the smart camera is not as innovative or on brand with the HITMAN games, but at least tries to rectify the sometimes awkward, albeit thematic, absence of tech from Agent 47’s arsenal. Nevertheless, I’m still excited to play more of the game to see if there’s anything else that’s new.

So far, HITMAN 3 feels like more of the same with a lot better graphics. This is actually fine for me, as I have come to accept that the complicated and delicate formula that makes up a HITMAN game may be too difficult to improve upon without losing it’s identity. I feel like there’s a conscious choice being made with the development of the HITMAN franchise, to create more content over the risk of an unfamiliar HITMAN experience. Over time we will see where this takes the future of the franchise in time, if there is one.
